Life circumstances change and sometimes that your dog can be as affected by change as you can be. You might be recently widowed, for example, and both you and your dog miss your spouse terribly. You might want to think about adding a new dog to your pack and a Boston terrier would be a great choice. Bostons are very good natured and they love to play. Think about Boston terrier adoption as a way to cheer you and your dog up.

Two dogs entertain each other so that it’s actually less trouble to have two. Your new dog will bring you so much joy that any extra expense will seem to be a bargain. If your first dog is a male, you should probably consider adopting a female Boston. Competition between two male dogs always complicates the relationship a bit.

When you decide to go ahead with Boston terrier adoption, check out the many Boston rescue groups listed on the web. You’ll find Bostons who are the American Kennel Club standard colors of black, seal, and brindle with white marking. There are other great colors, too, including brown, red and blonde/cream. The Boston rescue group will tell you the story of each individual Boston and why he or she was given up. Information is also provided about whether the Boston has problems with cats, other dogs or children. The Boston terrier photos on these web sites show a lot of great looking dogs. There are Bostons of every age available from the rescue groups. Don’t overlook the older dogs because Bostons are lively even when they are seniors.

After you’ve completed the Boston terrier adoption, you can set up the dogs’ first meeting on neutral territory, preferably a fenced area (a tennis court will work). Ask someone to bring your first dog to the meeting place and meet them there with your new dog. With the dogs on leashes, let them sniff each other and then let both off the leash. Once they get to know each other a bit, they’ll be great friends. Boston terrier adoption will give your first dog a great buddy and that will cheer him immeasurably. You’ll enjoy watching the two dogs play. Your home will become a joyful place.

Boston terrier adoption has one more important effect. It gives a Boston a new home where he or she has another chance for a happy life.

When you see the photos of Boston terriers’ puppies on the web, you can’t help but want one. Their wide-set dark eyes look so big and round in their sweet faces. Their short muzzles and little pointed ears are irresistible. Every Boston puppy has unique white markings on his or her face.

Boston terriers in standard American Kennel Club colors are black, brindle, or seal with white markings. Boston terriers also come in brown and other colors, which while not AKC standard, are very popular. All Bostons are short haired with lovely soft fur. A litter of Boston terriers’ puppies will often have very different white markings and sometimes different colors.

Boston terriers have been in the top 20 breeds of AKC dog registrations for a long time. They are popular not only because of great looks, but also because of cheerful dispositions. They are playful dogs who get along well with children. Boston terriers’ puppies will grow to be 15 to 17 inches tall. They’ll weigh up to 25 pounds. The teacup Boston terrier will only weight 10 pounds.

You’ll find that Boston terriers’ puppies are easy to train. They are smart and enthusiastic about learning new things. One important thing to remember when you start your Boston terrier training program is that Bostons are small but they don’t have small egos. If you are not acting like the leader of the pack, your Boston will take charge. If you need to learn how to be the alpha dog, you’ll find that the books by Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, are very helpful. Going to a a puppy class is a great way to start training your Boston. A class will give your puppy a chance to get used to other people and other puppies. You’ll have a great time, too.

Good Boston breeders will ask you a lot of questions before they’ll give you one of their Boston terriers’ puppies. They’ll want to make sure that you understand that Bostons are indoor dogs. They’ll want to be sure that you’re willing to spend the time playing, walking, and training your puppy. Good breeders will ask you specifically about how long you are out of the house during the day. They can’t bear to think of their Boston terriers’ puppies being lonely because of too many hours all by themselves.

The biggest challenge when you go to see Boston terriers’ puppies will be how to buy just one. Selecting a puppy is really hard when each one is so terrific. Somehow you’ll know which puppy is right for you. It’ll be as if the puppy has just been waiting for you to come.

Boston breeders will tell you that there is a lot of demand these days for what are known as “colored” Boston terriers. The American Kennel Club Standards allow for three colors to go with a Boston’s white markings: black, brindle or seal. Black is the Boston’s show standard so if you want to win ribbons, get a black and white Boston terrier. If you don’t plan to show your Boston, the brindle and seal are great colors. Brindle is a distinctive pattern of brown, tan, and black. The AKC defines the color seal as black with a red cast in the sunlight.

The most important thing to remember about the AKC and color is that the AKC allows any dog to be registered as AKC if the parents of that dog are AKC registered. Thus, you can have an AKC Boston of any color if both its parents are AKC registered. With that point in mind, you can consider some of the different views about colored Bostons. Ten different Boston breeders might have 10 different opinions about colored Bostons.

Some Boston breeders might only want to raise AKC show standard Bostons that are black and white. Others may want to raise AKC standard colors of brindle or seal. Some Boston breeders are happy to raise colored Bostons that are nonstandard colors. Photos on the web of the colored Bostons show a lot of really lovely dogs.

The red and white Boston terrier can have variations of red coloring from light reds to darker orange reds. The brown Boston terrier, sometimes called chocolate, can range from a light to a dark brown color. A white Boston terrier puppy which is not an albino will eventually have be cream and white colors. The cream and white Boston, sometimes called blonde, has pigmentation in his nose, eye rims and paw pads, unlike an albino which is totally white. You can find good Boston breeders who have Boston terriers in all of these colors and more.

If you are interested in a colored Boston terrier puppy, be sure to start with a reputable Boston breeder. The breeder should show you the papers on the parent Bostons. Be sure to get references from the breeder and check out the conditions of the facilities for his or her dogs. You will have no trouble in getting a beautiful colored Boston terrier from a good Boston breeder.

Hemivertebrae:

Genetic in nature, the incidence of hemivertebrae is highest in brachycephalic (short muzzled), screw-tailed dog breeds. The screw-tail is actually an example of a hemivertebrae formation. This condition may be pleasing when located in the tail but can have serious consequences when located elsewhere in the spine.

That’s when I thought I should share this information to fellow Boston Terrier owners too.

Here’s the little brief on the Patellar Luxation, one type of Boston Terrier health problems, that I’ve taken straight from bostonterrierhub.com.

Patellar Luxation:

The most common orthopedic-related health problem is patellar luxation. Untreated, it can lead to rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. Signs of patellar_luxation are limping, pain, and frequent stops to stretch the rear leg.

Stretching and straightening the leg allows the patella to pop back into its normal place. There are varying degrees of luxation, ranging from the knee cap popping back into place on its own to severe luxation, which requires surgery.

I’ve been reading about some boston terrier health issues that have been bugging my terrier. So while reading, I got to know more about the different common sickness and illnesses that terriers can have and will tend to contract.

So here I am sharing with you some of my findings.

Some of them are brachycephalic syndrome, patellar luxation, hemivertebrae, sensorineural deafness, and eye problems.

Even though Boston Terriers are generally healthy, and long-lived dogs. They are still susceptible to the more common diseases that affects all dogs such as bordetella, distemper and parvovirus.

One of the more common health problems is the Brachycephalic Syndrome. This syndrome is a combination of upper airway disorders that cause airflow resistance in the upper respiratory tract (nose and larynx) in short-nosed breeds of dogs.

The cause is related to the shortened bones of these dogs’ flattened faces without a proportionate shortening of the overlying soft tissues. The excess soft tissue leads to airway compromise. The most common conditions include: stenotic nares (pinched nostrils), elongated soft palate, and everted laryngeal saccules.

Recently I came across an article and it talks about why dogs barks and that’s why as I went on reading it, it just struck my mind that maybe you might need something like this too. To help you cope with all the barking from a Boston terrier.

Therefore, I’ve written a few short paragraphs on it. For the following days, I shall be updating on the different situations which your Boston might be barking non-stop.

It’s absolutely normal for your Boston Terrier to bark from time to time, it’s almost similar to children making noise when they play outside. However, if the barking is persistent for long periods of time, then it is a symptom of a problem that needs addressing. Especially your neighbours and your Boston Terrier.

Firstly, you will need to find out some fact about your Boston terrier. Find out when and how long has your dog barks and what causes him to bark. Sometime you will need to ask around your neighbours to check if your dog barks when you are not around. You might even consider having a tape recorder to record what will be happening to your dog when you are not around. That way you will soon find out which of the common problems your Boston terrier are having.
